Stephens' mother said her son was randomly shooting people because he was angry at a girlfriend, and police have said he had no connection to Godwin.

Officials say Stephens shot and killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. on Sunday and posted the gruesome video on Facebook. Police here said Stephens then posted a video of the shooting on Facebook and has fled.

"He hugged my wife and me and said "I'll see you guys next time, '" Godwin Jr. recounted". She said he had a good retirement plan from his years as a foundry worker but that "it was just something to do".

On day two of the manhunt, Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Stephen Anthony said Stephens, a counsellor for young adults "could be nearby, he could be far away, or anywhere in between".

Williams urged Stephens to reach out to local clergy with whom he already has a relationship with to facilitate turning himself into police. However, police said they have no evidence to support that after checking several locations.
