Boston Marathon runners get tailwind at start

Galen Rupp, 2012 Olympic silver medalist for 10,000 meters and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist for the marathon, is among the contenders, and probably the top US threat in the men's race. Rupp, an Olympic bronze medalist, is one of America's next great hopes now that Meb is retiring. Many run for causes, many more are running to prove something to themselves. Among the competitors will be cancer survivors, people with prosthetic limbs, and others who've overcome unimaginable odds to run on Patriot's Day in Boston. It's there. It's done. "The scariest part would be. everything else about the Boston Marathon".

Led by Galen Rupp's second place finish in the men's race and Jordan Hasay's third-place finish in the women's race, former OR standouts were well-represented in Monday's Boston Marathon. A new documentary that premiered in Boston on Saturday night, narrated by Matt Damon, tells that story along with many others from the history of the world's longest running long run.

"Run 50 by 50", she explained.

"I really just focused on the people in front of me and just trying to pick off as many women as I could", said Piers that year. Last year's marathon generated $188.8 million with an entry field of 30,816 athletes.

"I didn't want this injury to keep me out of the military so I knew I had to get back on my feet and get back in shape", he said.

A year later, Switzer told her coach at Syracuse, Arnie Briggs, about Gibb and said she also wanted to run Boston. Defending champion Atsede Baysa was also in the pack.

"I'm nervous and excited".

"I'm not anxious about the physicalness of my capability", she recently told the Boston Globe.

"The Boston Marathon and its related events provide an extraordinary kick start for our visitor season", GBCVB President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo said in a recent press release. Some runners join groups, both official and unofficial, in order to train for the big race. It was at Dana-Farber that her father received treatment for his glioblastoma before his death in 2011. She's an extrovert, I'm an introvert. In 2015, she started a nonprofit, 261 Fearless, that uses running to empower women around the world.

American Desi Linden was fourth behind Hasay - the first time since 1991 that two US women have finished in the top four.

For those attending the marathon, the city has listed prohibited items, including backpacks, glass containers and strollers.

"She knows herself she is not champion", Beyi said. "And if you think about it sort of rationally it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it does all come together".

The 121st Boston Marathon is on its way from Hopkinton to Boston.

Semple later disqualified Switzer for, among other things, running with the men.
