On the USA airstrike on an Assad regime air base in retaliation for the chemical attack, Lavrov said, "We reiterated our common position that it was an act of aggression, a flagrant violation of the principles of worldwide law and the UN Charter".
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia wants to see the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW) and the United Nations sending inspectors for the investigation into the incident with the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.
The use of sarin was confirmed through forensic medicine examination carried out by Turkish authorities, joined by World Health Organization (WHO) and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) officials.
"We consider it absolutely necessary to have thorough, objective and unbiased professional investigation", he said, TASS reported.
Lavrov made the statement on April 15 after a meeting with Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. However, the USA president also said that the recent missile strike against Assad's military was not the beginning of a campaign to remove the dictator, further noting that the goal is to eradicate the ISIS, NYPost reported.
