The Tony Romo NBA Circus? 'It Was Awesome!'

OK, a career in the National Basketball Association for a former 36-year-old star in the NFL is a long shot, but that didn't stop the Dallas Mavericks from bringing him on the court for warmups Tuesday night.

But it wasn't going to happen on a night when the Mavericks wanted to honor the former Cowboys quarterback who announced he'd be moving to the broadcast booth for CBS Sports earlier this month. "I told him what I was going to do", Cuban said on Tuesday night, "and said, 'Fine me if you don't like it'".

This killed any chance of seeing Romo ball in the Mavs' home finale, which featured two teams eliminated from playoff contention.

Romo did warm up with the team before the game, even swishing a jumper over Mavs guard Devin Harris.

"Signing him and stuff like that, would have been too much for a lot of reasons", Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said before his team's 109-91 loss.

"Just the scrambling that he did when the play wasn't working, he was one of the best in the game. And that's not really what this is about".

Well, if you are of the belief that Romo hasn't seen his last down in the National Football League, you are not alone. We're entertainment. And if they're so self-important they can't recognize that, it's on them. "Standing here today, I feel a little embarrassed to be honest in the sense that you're lucky enough to be in position, that someone cares enough to do something to honor you".

"At first, I was just feeling like I didn't deserve any of that", Romo said of his initial first reaction to the offer.

In addition to the four killed, 15 people were injured, four of them critically, Stockholm County Council said earlier. However, Reuters news agency said the person was arrested on "a lower degree of suspicion" than the first suspect.

Said Vaughn: "He seems like a cool guy, and he's a great quarterback".

The sellout crowd at the Mavericks' game against the Denver Nuggets - a battle of two teams eliminated from National Basketball Association playoff contention - was delighted to have a chance to cheer Romo.

It sure would have been fun to see what Romo could have done if he indeed was able to get into the game.

Romo arrived at American Airlines Center a little after 9 a.m. ET with his youngest son, Rivers, and cousin Andy Alberth. Thanks for everything you've done for Dallas, and you've represented us great, bro.

After breaking a bone in his back last preseason, the career passing leader for the storied Cowboys franchise lost the starting job he held for 10 years to rookie Dak Prescott and decided not to play for another team. Now we'll see if his desire to compete for a championship overrules his decision to step away from the game. "He's a great competitor, victor and plays hurt, the whole thing". A number of Cowboys people, including reps from the Jones family, coach Jason Garrett, star Ezekiel Elliott and the buffalo-herd of offensive linemen, were among the appreciative.

With Westbrook resting for the first time this season, Oladipo also had nine rebounds and six assists, and the Thunder outrebounded Minnesota 54-35.

From there he took his seat next to Cuban, cheering on his new teammates.
