Kershaw Bests Greinke in Money Matchup

The Dodgers are 4-1 in Maedas last 5 starts vs. Diamondbacks, the Diamondbacks are 5-22 in the last 27 meetings in Los Angeles and the under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings. Greinke's ERA on the season jumps to 4.32 as he earns his first loss of 2017.

This time, it wasn't the power that stung Greinke, like the five home runs he allowed in his first time back to Dodger Stadium last September.

Greinke spent three seasons with the Dodgers, going 51-15 with a 2.30 ERA, before signing a $206.5-million, six-year deal with the Diamondbacks.

He fell behind three of his first four hitters in a scoreless first inning, allowed the Dodgers to load the bases in the second inning before getting the big-swinging Kershaw to ground into a double play, then lost his way in the third.

Greinke, obviously, will be intent on avoiding such a disaster.

"He's so competitive that if I started taking it lightly, it would be a bad game plan", Greinke told MLB.com. Great mindset, great work ethic.

"He does do everything as ideal as you would want your pitcher to do - great mindset, great work ethic".

Greinke was at his confused worst, falling behind in counts, hanging pitches thrown with seemingly little objective, allowing the Dodgers five runs and 10 scalding hits in five innings. Kershaw struck out six and did not issue a walk, but he served up back-to-back home runs for the first time in his career, to Mark Reynolds and Gerardo Parra. Maeda is 3-1 with a 2.97 ERA and 34 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks. However, center fielder A.J. Pollock has experienced some success against the left-hander, batting.292 with a pair of RBIs in 24 at-bats.

On the other hand, Greinke is looking forward to see watch his former teammates' excellence.

I don't really look forward to it. Even the good games I threw, it was a tougher game. I'm just going to have to focus and really think about it like he's another guy. But then I didn't see him good, either.

Kershaw was Kershaw in the Dodgers' 7-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona third baseman Jake Lamb got the day off. Manager Torey Lovullo said the timing was right against the lefty Kershaw.

It was in the final frame that Owings got to Kershaw again. Toles is now tied with Yasiel Puig for the team lead in home runs, and has hit one in each of his last three starts.
