Son stars as Spurs put Watford to the sword

Son Heung-min hit a brace as Tottenham kept their Premier League title ambitions alive with a comprehensive win over a poor Watford side at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur extended their win-streak to six games in the Premier League, as Spurs defeated Watford 4-0 at White Hart Lane on Saturday morning. "From the beginning it was a tough game; they were very motivated to play, showed good energy".

"I believe the team deserve full credit as the energy as well as the manner that people played was fantastic - 4-0 but I believe we deserved more goals".

Son had two more opportunities to score during the game, which would have given him his first hat trick in the English Premier League, but he fell short of a third goal and concluded play time at the 88th minute, when he was replaced by Joshua Onomah.

"I think today is a very good example here of trying to change that mentality", Pochettino continued.

Now seven points behind Chelsea with seven league games remaining, Tottenham hopes for three slip-ups from the champion-elect, while Antonio Conte's team faces perhaps its most hard remaining test against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It amounted to a far more assured route to victory for Mauricio Pochettino's side than the remarkably frantic midweek comeback at Swansea City and cut Chelsea's advantage at the summit to four points, at least until Antonio Conte's men face Bournemouth in Saturday's late kick-off. And now [we try] to be focused and try to be ready next week against Bournemouth here again, and we'll see what happens.

Yet to score from open play at White Hart Lane in nine Premier League outings, his inclusion against an injury-plagued Watford outfit looked the flawless opportunity to rekindle his goalscoring touch.

Spurs will be hoping Manchester United, Chelsea's next opponents, can do them a favour by beating the Blues.

"Obviously last season was hard". Too many attacking midfield players get towards the penalty spot and then stop and don't go that extra mile but there's so many goals to be had.

"We played really well".

The goal made Son the first Asian footballer to net more than 10 goals in a single EPL season. He just seems to be going from strength to strength, and it won't be long before Spurs are fighting off Real Madrid the way they did (albeit unsuccessfully) with Gareth Bale.

"We want to stay in the Premier League and get a lot of points as soon as possible".
