James Harden has one argument left against Russell Westbrook

Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson's 56-year-old National Basketball Association record with his 42nd triple-double of the season, and broke Denver's hearts with a buzzer-beating three-pointer for a 106-105 victory. He also nailed this insane huge three at the buzzer to give the Oklahoma City Thunder a 106-105 win over the Nuggets.

It was yet another remarkable display of the all-around excellence that a triple-double - the achievement of double-digit totals in three of five key statistical categories - has come to represent.

The Mile High City just experienced the Wrath of The Broadie when the Thunder escaped the Nuggets, thanks to Russell Westbrook.

- Though Westbrook is now top of the pile, Robertson still dominates the list of best seasons in terms of triple-doubles. Over the course of the season, Harden has averaged 20.5 points, 12.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game against the Thunder.

A case in point, Donovan said, was Westbrook's response after he missed a chance at a 42nd triple-double in a defeat at Phoenix on Friday.

He said: "If I think it's the right thing to do and benefits the team all players are adaptable. It seems they were betting everything on the second leg.

First, Russell Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson's record for most triple-doubles in a season. The Nuggets led 101-88 before Westbrook's record-breaking assist and by 10 points with 2:27 to play before Westbrook outscored them 13-2 over the remainder of the game.

Elsewhere, the Toronto Raptors assured themselves of at least the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a 110-97 victory over the New York Knicks. Harden is tied for second in scoring at 29.2 points and leads the league in assists at 11.2. He was one of just six players in the league to have started every game. The Hall of Famer said Westbrook's triple-double numbers show his overall impact on the game beyond his team's record.

If Harden wins the NBA MVP over Westbrook, it means that the voters would have valued Harden team's win-loss record compared to Westbrook team's performance this year. Westbrook is considered by many as shoo-in for this year's MVP but his first-round rival, Houston's James Harden, is another candidate that could snatch the award from him.

While Kevin Durant's absence clearly contributed to added looks and an increased role for Westbrook within Oklahoma City's offense, the consistency and dominance shown over the long regular season might not be something that we ever see again in our lifetimes.
