Giants place Buster Posey on 7-day DL

Posey was hit in the head by a 94 miles per hour fastball from D-backs right-hander Taijuan Walker yesterday, and though Pavlovic notes that he's said to be feeling good, the team wants to proceed with caution in a potential concussion scenario.

Through Sunday's 3-2 victory over Cleveland, the Diamondbacks led the major leagues in runs - a franchise-record 48 through seven games - hits, RBIs, average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

Matt Moore (0-1) will take the ball opposing Taijuan Walker (1-0) when the Giants host Arizona in their home opener Monday afternoon at sold-out AT&T Park after opening at the Diamondbacks' Chase Field last week.

The Giants plunked Walker's teammate, David Peralta, later on Monday, and San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy insinuated that was perhaps retaliation.

In the first inning on just the second pitch of his at-bat, Buster Posey was hit in the head by a pitch from Walker that was clocked at 94 miles per hour.

Giants athletic trainer Dave Groeschner and manager Bruce Bochy sprinted towards the home plate immediately.

Walker was booed at the conclusion of the inning and every time out thereafter.

We know that we need a positive result in the second leg and keep a clean sheet, because it's tough out there, tough - we all saw it.

Bochy said there was no discussion about letting Posey stay in the game because, as a catcher, he could be at risk for a foul tip that would have an exponentially devastating effect. It's a good idea, especially for a catcher who faces a lot of wear and tear and opportunity for additional head injuries, to take time before allowing his return. Hunter Renfroe's throw was offline and hit Myers' glove before the first baseman accidentally kicked it into the Padres' dugout to allow Brandon Crawford to score.

Kemp is eight for 16 with four doubles and two home runs.

Moore would not let that happen again, cruising through eight innings on 93 pitches while yielding just three hits and no walks. He's been utilized as an emergency catcher of sorts in recent years. "It got away from me".

The Giants observed a moment of silence before the game in memory of Mirian Cepeda, the wife of Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda. "KATY" was spelled on the out-of-town scoreboard while photos and flowers were in the seat she often occupied during the postseason.

Arizona kicked off a 10-game road trip against NL West opponents on Monday with a 4-1 loss to the Giants. "She was a tremendous help to me".
