Braves starter Julio Teheran threw the first pitch of the game, which resulted in Manuel Margot flying out to center fielder Ender Inciarte.

The question that has been on the mind of many fans from around the metro Atlanta area ever since the Braves announced they were moving to Cobb County three years ago revolved around just how people were going to get to the new ballpark, and how much room there was for them to park once they did.

Starlin Castro hit a two-run homer and Austin Romine had a solo homer for the Yankees, who are 4-0 at home for the first time since 2003.

In addition to his two-run homer, Inciarte had a leadoff infield single and scored the Braves' first of two runs in the opening inning. He plucked a 3-1 pitch and drove it over the right field wall, driving in Emilio Bonifacio and padding Atlanta's lead for their eventual 5-2 win.

Ready to be home: Several Braves players talked about their eagerness to finally play in front of a home audience after a week and a half on the road, and they repaid the sold-out crowd with solid, error-free baseball. The Dress Up SunTrust Park location will open in May. "Everybody was pumped in the dugout and you could feel the excitement of the crowd".

Julio Teheran wasn't almost as sharp as he had been while not allowing an earned run in his first two starts, but the right-hander got the victory despite allowing 11 baserunners in six innings. Jim Johnson came on in the ninth for his second save. "I can't imagine anything better right now".

"I don't think he's trying to hit homers", Snitker said. I stopped going to games at Turner Field.

NOTES: Hall of Fame slugger Hank Aaron tossed the ceremonial first pitch to Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox during pregame ceremonies that also spotlighted Braves' legends Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Dale Murphy and Phil Niekro.

There were a lot firsts Friday night at SunTrust Park.

'Mother of all bombs' kills dozens of militants in Afghanistan
Hamdullah Mohib said the colossal Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb was dropped after fighting had intensified over the last week. Afghan officials said the massive blast killed at least 36 fighters and destroyed the deep tunnel complex.

Turner Field was home to the Braves for 20 years and was able seat about 50,000 fans.

The San Diego Padres will look to keep things going after winning 4 of their last 6 games, including their series finale against the Rockies on Wednesday.

The Padres took advantage of Teheran's wildness in the second. And don't think he wasn't aware of all those firsts as they happened.

While the suburban location of the park and the public funds used to lure the Braves out of Atlanta were sources of controversy, Manfred said this model of building revenue-generating operations outside the ballpark is worth replicating.

The Padres reinstated catcher Hector Sanchez from the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled right-hander Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso.

The Braves also made a move before game, calling up right-hander Luke Jackson from Triple-A Gwinnett and sending down right-hander Jason Hursh. Jaime Garcia went 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts, factoring in the no-decision.

Braves: OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) ran before the game and isn't expected to need a rehab stint in the minors before he's eligible to return on Tuesday.

Padres: LHP Clayton Richard (1-1) makes his third start of the season.

About the Braves' ace: R.A. Dickey originally was slated to start the home opener, or at least that was the plan when the rotation was set in mid-March. I liked (Atlanta-) Fulton County (Stadium) more than I ever did Turner Field.
