Page replied when asked about the Washington Post report, before veering off into an explanation about how his circumstances are similar to the USA investigation into whether Russian Federation was complicit in last week's deadly chemical attack in Syria. The campaign says and Carter Page has confirmed that he never actually met Donald Trump.
Page told ABC News the group's attempts to recruit him were unsuccessful, and said that any information he passed onto the agents had already been a matter of public record.
According to FBI Director Jim Comey, there is an ongoing FBI investigation into whether Trump associates colluded with Russian Federation in their efforts to interfere with the presidential election.
The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor Donald Trump's former foreign policy adviser because they suspected he might be working with the Russians.
Page said in an interview with the Post that the court order "confirms all of my suspicions about unjustified, politically motivated government surveillance", adding: "I have nothing to hide". Among U.S. businessmen who had worked in Russia, and the Russians they had worked with, few knew Page's name.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday the application to a special court to monitor Carter Page was part of the investigation into potential links between the Republican's presidential campaign and Russian Federation. As some of the Trump team have become liabilities to the administration, they were described by Sean Spicer as "hangers-on", with little to no influence on the campaign or President Trump.
FISA sets out a series of criteria that government lawyers must meet.
The government's application for the Fisa warrant to monitor Page included a declaration that formed the basis for investigators believing that Page was an agent of Moscow and that he knowingly engaged in clandestine intelligence activities on behalf of the Russian government. He also warned people not to make assumptions about the matter.
'Low level of trust' between US and Russia, Tillerson says

Approval of a FISA warrant, according to John Carlin, the former assistant attorney general for national security and an ABC News contributor, requires extensive evidence. Harry Reid, D-Nevada to FBI Director James Comey.
For many civil libertarians, the FISA court has been vilified as a rubber stamp for the US government's surveillance activity. But applications filed in October were finally approved. In previous years, the approval rate has hovered above 99 percent.
Government lawyers will frequently brief judges orally on their applications, or submit a "read"-copy of their briefs".
Carter Page was a member of the campaign team, acting as a foreign analyst for Russian matters.
US prosecutors have been looking into Manafort's work since at least the 2014 ouster of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who fled to Russian Federation.
The identities of targets of FISA orders - both before and after their approval - are closely guarded. That person was Rice, who said last month on PBS that she had no clue about the leaks. Most of similar investigations do not necessarily result to criminal charges.
ENTOUS: He says that he's not surprised that this would happen, and he is basically saying that, you know, this is an indication that the intelligence community under President Obama was run amok is basically the argument that he's making.
