Manager Joe Maddon was as eager as anybody to see lefty Brett Anderson make his Cubs debut Friday night. Baez had to leave the game Friday after suffering a left eye contusion when he collided with right fielder Jason Heyward chasing down a fly ball. Braun was scratched before game time Saturday with tightness in his lower back and has missed two of the Brewers' last three games.
Milwaukee did not get a hit after Braun's home run in the third inning until Domingo Santana homered off Hector Rondon with two outs in the ninth.
The Brewers are officially off to a poor start, dropping 5 of their first 7 games on the young season.
The Cubs tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh against Carlos Torres.
"It looked like (the eye) was going to start swelling".
"I haven't even thought about it", Maddon said. Then we ran into a good offense in the Cubs the last two games. "If I can get the ball down, my sinker will put the ball in the ground, so get ahead and get the ball in the ground".
BHP Billiton plc 25.7% Potential Upside Indicated by Macquarie
Headlines about BHP Billiton plc (NYSE:BBL) have trended somewhat positive this week, Alpha One Sentiment Analysis reports. Morgan Stanley reaffirmed a "buy" rating on shares of BHP Billiton Limited in a research note on Saturday, January 21st.
He wasn't almost as fortunate in the third, though, giving up four straight one-out hits, including back-to-back doubles by Schwarber and Bryant to tie the game at 2.
What you need to know: The Cubs took an early lead thanks to Ben Zobrist's first home run of the season in the top of the second inning off Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson.
Manager Craig Counsell and assistant athletic trainer Dave Yeager attended to RHP Jacob Barnes after he fielded a bunt single by Jon Jay in the eighth. A wild pitch by Mike Montgomery with the bases loaded and one out in the inning ended the game. He was the first lefty to start against the Cubs for the Brewers since Randy Wolf on June 7, 2012, at Miller Park.
Arrieta didn't let the three run homer rattle him though.
Milwaukee will close out its upcoming nine-game road trip with a three-game series in Chicago on April 17-19. He walked two across six innings and the only run he allowed came on an error following an infield single in the fifth inning.
Heyward did not start on Saturday, but that was because the Cubs had planned on giving him a day off rather than face Brewers lefty Tommy Milone.
