A bad point for both Arsenal and Manchester City

The Gunners face a real fight to secure a top-four finish this season - something Wenger has achieved in every previous season since taking charge in 1996 - but with just one league win since February they now sit sixth.

At the bottom, Swansea City missed a chance to move clear of the relegation zone after a drab 0-0 draw with fellow struggler Middlesbrough at the Liberty Stadium.

The result on Sunday did go some way in pulling the fans back to rallying behind the team, but it remains to be seen if they end protests to see the removal of their long-serving manager at the end of the season.

Arsenal then piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser and a positive spell of play was rewarded with their first goal as Theo Walcott pulled things level in the 40th minute.

Against a background of supporter discontent over the form of Wenger's team as the Frenchman decides his future, with a protest outside the ground before kick-off urging the manager to leave his post, Arsenal were nervy from the start.

Three unhappy Arsenal fans set up camp outside the entrance to the club's training facilities on Tuesday with banners displaying the messages "Wenger Out" and "No New Contract", with another instructing fans the boycott the Gunners' commercial partners such as auto manufacturer Citroen and sportswear company Puma.

Welbeck said: "We showed character but I think we have to look at the performance and see where we conceded the goals".

"If we show the same spirit we showed against City, we will win football games".

However, ahead of Wednesday's clash with West Ham, Wenger insisted that his achievement in guiding Arsenal into the top four year after year should not be underplayed.

With Arsenal now 6th in the Premier League with just 10 games to go, the prospect of finishing outside the top four is becoming very real for Arsène Wenger and Gunners fans.

It is a fractious time at the North London club over the managerial situation and it appears some fans have let their frustrations get the better of them.

In an uncomfortable position at Arsenal, Youri Djorkaeff believes it could be time for under-fire manager Arsene Wenger to change his ways.

"In the end we got a point". "You just want our fans to stand behind the team and the club, and that's what they did against City".

"We were 20 games unbeaten this season [it was actually 19]". We want to be further up the league and we have dropped two more points.
