The Red Sox' major offensive problems at third base have stemmed largely from the struggles of Sandoval, a player for whom the Red Sox had virtually no backup plan. The third baseman made his name with Giants - where he hit.294/.346/.465 with 106 home runs and 462 RBI across six seasons. Sandoval didn't leave San Francisco on great terms, saying in 2015 that the only people he missed from the Giants organization were Hunter Pence and manager Bruce Bochy.
