'I wanted to make sure she was a part of that, ' Curry said.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry surprised a fourth-grade girl who had written him a letter questioning why his sneaker line was only sold in men's sizes; and now nine-year-old Riley Morrison will be wearing the new kicks at Friday's game in Oakland as the All-Star guard's guest of honor.
Curry, in the middle of his 10th National Basketball Association season, took the time to write a hand-written letter in response to Riley, something the Napa native didn't see coming.
Since November, Curry did more than just tweet. "She is inspiring, and wise beyond her years", he said of the other Riley in his life.
Curry responded to the initial letter, delivered shoes to Morrison around the holidays and enlisted the young girl's help to design the UA ICON Curry 6 United We Win colorway, which the company describes as a blend of purple and deep orchid with white.
"I " m really happy that I wrote that letter", Riley says on a video produced by Under Armour.
Daylight Saving Time: The myths and the truths
Clocks will be set back an hour, and you'll get an extra hour of sleep and lose a little bit of precious sunlight in the evening. That swell idea lasted less than a year, but was picked up again in 1966 when the United States adopted the Uniform Time Act .
After she issued a letter to Curry explaining the quandary, kindly requesting that the shoes be made for girls, as well.
Thursday night, the brand announced that a pair of Curry 6's will drop in the "United We Win" colorway, with a little help from nine-year-old Riley Morrison herself.
Her dad, Chris Morrison, said that she didn't get paid for her work, but that the "experience alone has been priceless".
The scholarship will award $30,000 annually on International Women's Day to a female Bay Area student "who has shown an aptitude for overcoming adversity, catalyzing change within their community, and demonstrating excellence in a STEM-related field of study". The shoes will release on International Women's Day on March 8.
Congrats to Riley Morrison for taking action and props to Steph and Under Armour for following through. I was very shy.
