Olivia Colman Honors Glenn Close in the Sweetest Way

"Oooh, it's genuinely quite stressful", said a staggered Colman, who later turned to Close to say she was her idol, "And this is not how I wanted it to be".

Her co-stars, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, were both nominated for best supporting actress but lost out to Regina King.

But Darren offered her plenty of support after she lost out again for the Best Supporting Actress award for the film Vice last night with his bold romantic red carpet statement.

"Any little girl who's practising their speech on the telly - you never know!"

But, to the surprise of Oscar-watchers everywhere, Colman picked up the gong and gave one of the most deeply relatable speeches of the night. It was also a significant win for an incredible historical film - that was otherwise ignored at the ceremony - telling a story where three women, and women only, are at the center.

The once presumed front-runner "A Star Is Born" appeared to flame out as awards season continued, it won, as expected, for the song "Shallow", which Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed.

Woods, who hit 16 greens in regulation, was 10 shots behind and in no mood to speak to anyone after the round. No one else was closer than seven shots of the lead.

Apparently, she made her breakthrough as Sophie Chapman in the Channel 4 comedy series Peep Show (2003-2015) while her other comic roles in television include Green Wing (2004-2006), Beautiful People (2008-2009), Rev. (2010-2014), Twenty Twelve (2011-2012), and Fleabag (2016-present). Many believe Close was acknowledging Colman's speech, but essentially telling the star, she deserved this moment in the sun.

While Colman took home the leading actress award, she was not the only nominee from the cast.

"I have worked hard for a long time and it's not about winning, it's about not giving up", said a tearful Gaga.

This was Colman's first Oscar nomination and win. She noted that she enjoyed going to work every day and truly fell in love with the project.

"My kids are at home and watching", Colman said, crying. "It's the highest honor you can get for what we do, and so that, in itself is... it's just a great honor".

In true Colman style, she heeded calls to wrap the speech by blowing a raspberry. "Thank you Ryan, I love you".
