Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL.

Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst added: "We're most disappointed for Jack, but if you know him you know there's a lot to him".

"I wanna thank this university and this great state for letting a Wisconsin boy come live out his dreams", the Somerset, Wisc. native said.

Cichy was voted team captain this season along with Michael Deiter, D'Cota Dixon, Troy Fumagalli and Conor Sheehy.

Despite missing the final seven games, Cichy was All-Big Ten honorable mention.

Wall Street was poised for further losses at the opening bell, with Dow futures and the broader S&P 500 futures down 0.3 percent. President Donald Trump warned North Korea earlier this week it would face " fire and fury " if it threatened the United States.

Cichy was also a leader off the field, and has earned numerous preseason accolades including the Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Nagurski Trophy and the Lott IMPACT Trophy.

This is the second major injury Cichy has sustained in as many years.

He played in only one game and logged one tackle during his freshman campaign at Wisconsin in 2013 and then proceeded to redshirt for the 2014 season. Junior Ryan Connelly filled in last season after Cichy went down and finished with 59 tackles in 14 games.

Wisconsin officials say Cichy suffered the injury on Tuesday, but was able to practice with it on Wednesday.

"As I learned the news of my injury and the end of my season I couldn't help but reflect", the message read. This waiver acknowledges that an athlete's injury was so debilitating, they could not play during the entire season, and due to this, do not lose a year of eligibility.
