Worldwide organised crime syndicates dismantled, 17 arrested in Sydney, Dubai and Europe

It's one of the biggest attacks on suspected organised crime Australia has ever seen, and police left no stone unturned as they co-ordinated a succinct crackdown.

Over 570 officers worked simultaneously to disrupt two crime syndicates that were allegedly transporting huge amounts of ecstasy (MDMA), cocaine and ice between Australia, Dubai and the Netherlands.

Police are now searching the homes of Fadi and John Ibrahim in Dover Heights and there are several media reports Michael and Fadi Ibrahim have been arrested in Dubai as part of an investigation into the importation of MDMA, or ecstasy.

Mr Ibrahim was not arrested during the operation and was home at the time.

The AFP estimated the value of the drugs at up to A$810 million ($642 million) if sold on the street in Australia.

Two other men arrested in the raids will face court on Wednesday, while another three men, including the brother of slain gangland kingpin Wally Ahmad, were refused bail on drug-smuggling charges in court on Tuesday.

In the operations, nine men and a woman were arrested in Sydney on Tuesday and Dubai police arrested five men in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE's Ministry of Justice and the Dubai Public Prosecution Office were involved in the sting.

"The people we allege are part of this syndicate are Middle Eastern organised crime figures that are well-known to law enforcement, and for decades this group has flaunted their wealth and activities, telling the community they were untouchable".

Among those arrested in Sydney was Sarah Budge, who was charged with illegally possessing a Glock 26 firearm, commonly known as a "baby Glock". The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and the Attorney General's Department have also provided significant assistance regarding the arrests in Dubai.

John Ibrahim's Dover Heights home was targeted, along with properties in Vaucluse, Bellevue Hill, Bankstown, Punchbowl and Arncliffe, The Daily Telegraph reported.
