FIFA, soccer's worldwide governing body, suspended Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio for six matches, gave him a warning and fined him almost $5,200 for his behavior during his team's 2-1 loss against Portugal in the third-place match at the FIFA Confederations Cup on July 2.

A red card was produced when Osorio got into the fourth official's face after referee Fahad Al-Mirdasi declined to whistle for what looked to be a penalty on Hirving Lozano late in extra time.

The suspension starts immediately and means he will miss this month's CONCACAF Gold Cup being held in the United States.

"Depending on the stage at which the final match of the Mexican national team takes place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017, any remaining matches of this six-match suspension shall be served during the national team's subsequent official matches".

In a statement, Federation Internationale de Football Association said the punishment was handed out to the Mexican manager, who was appointed in 2015, due to the "gravity" of the incident. Osorio was also officially warned and received a fine for his actions.

Curacao and Jamaica are in Group C alongside Mexico and El Salvador.
