Pregnant woman runs over suspected purse thief in Walmart parking lot

A pregnant North Carolina woman is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after she ran down a man accused of stealing her purse in the parking lot of an Asheville Walmart.

'It's not fair'- these are the words, 5 month pregnant woman, Christine Braswell, 26, uttered as she got into her SUV vehicle, moments before plowing down a fleeing man accused of stealing a purse from the woman's auto at a Walmart parking lot.

So, Braswell, who is five months pregnant, said she jumped behind the wheel of her vehicle and went after him.

She told News 13 her first thought was to run after him, but made a decision to get behind the wheel and chase him because she's pregnant. But she wasn't about to let him get away. "It's not right. It's not fair", Braswell said.

Braswell said Raines ran off with the purse and dropped some other items when she confronted him.

Another witness saw the break-in and confronted the suspect. "Then me and my friend told him to put it down and what are you doing".

Raines was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny and misdemeanor damage to property.

A surveillance camera caught the moment Jeanette Garlow chased the robber out of the store. "I mean. he was running and she just flat hit him", said witness Janice Kelley.

Authorities also charged Braswell with an assault charge. Raines reportedly took off on foot after being noticed in Braswell's vehicle, Fox News reports.
