CR7 is now involved in a case opened by the Madrid Prosecutor's Office for an alleged tax fraud worth 14.7 million euros.

Representatives for Ronaldo declined to comment.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the Jose Mourinho statement is that the Manchester United boss denies being contacted at all by the Spanish tax authorities. Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, among others, have already been convicted.

The allegations follow those made against Cristiano Ronaldo made by Spanish tax authorities last week, which led to the player disclosing a wish to leave the country and perhaps work with Mourinho again at Old Trafford.

Mourinho was Real Madrid coach from 2010-13.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Monday that he would present options on Afghanistan to President Donald Trump "very soon". But he confirmed that seven soldiers had been evacuated after being wounded in the incident at Camp Shaheen.

According to a court document seen by AFP, Di Maria will pay around two million euros to the Spanish authorities after pleading guilty to two counts of fraud committed in 2012 and 2013 when he was a Real Madrid player.

The hearing will take place at 09:00 GMT on July 31 in a court at Pozuelo de Alarcón, in the suburbs of Madrid, according to Spanish press reports.

José Mourinho joins a growing list of football stars being investigated and prosecuted in Spain over accusations of tax evasion, in particular in connection with allegedly undeclared income from the sale of image rights by using companies based outside the country. The two were given 21-month jail sentences but neither is expected to serve prison time since it was a first offence and the sentence was under two years.

In 2016, Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano received a one-year suspended prison sentence for tax fraud while Barca superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar are both now awaiting court decisions.

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano also agreed a one-year suspended sentence with authorities for tax fraud last year.
