Tatum averaged 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Blue Devils in 2016-17, ranking second on the team and among ACC freshmen in both categories. But he's really talented offensively and I think he's still just scratching the surface of what he's going to be. "He combines that with an advanced, diversified skill level and flashes of two-way potential, which makes it easy to see why Tatum has been a top rated prospect all season long".

And, to no surprise, they all expressed optimism that Tatum will do good things when he first dons his new Celtics jersey bearing No. 11.

As part of the deal with Philadelphia, Boston will also receive a first-round draft pick in either 2018 or 2019 - giving it even more bargaining chips to bolster its roster.

Tatum isn't without his weaknesses, however. By comparison, Tatum is a much more developed offensive player.

Boston Celtics fans applaud as they watch the Celtics choose Jayson Tatum, during the team's NBA basketball draft party at TD Garden, Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Boston.

On draft night, they still grabbed one of the most NBA-ready players available. "Jaylen Brown gives you defense, Jayson Tatum gives you instant offense".

"I talked about that with coach [Brad] Stevens and he said guys at my size and my position and are able to hit open shots and defend the one through the four, it's hard not to play those guys so that's how he looks at using me if they were to draft me", Tatum said.

Tatum could also see some time playing as a small-ball 4 in Boston, a role he often occupied for Duke. Trading that pick and selecting Tatum will be remembered as a definitive move for Danny Ainge's tenure and will be one of the storylines that accompanies Tatum in his Boston career.
