Yoga Day celebrated at Machu Picchu, Great Wall of China

From the deck of an aircraft carrier to the sub-zero temperatures of a Himalayan military outpost, tens of thousands of Indians joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to celebrate the third International Yoga Day.

Modi said, as a very small use of salt makes the food tasty, small practices of Yoga help a person to be healthy and free from diseases. "We may not master yoga or become teachers but we should not stop from performing yoga (asanas)", Modi said.

On the first International Yoga Day past year, Prime Minister Modi led thousands of people through various yogic exercises at Rajpath here.

Born in Pakistani Punjab, Haider, unlike many Muslims, is emphatic that yoga has nothing to do with Hindu religion and should be accepted by people of all faiths. International Yoga Day is being celebrated in almost 180 nations.

Registrar, Prof M Afzal Zargar also highlighted the advantages and benefits of Yoga and all other traditional activities in physical and mental development of the person.

- Over 10,000 participants and organisations including Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), the Delhi Police, CISF, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, etc, participated in the common Yoga Protocol at Connaught Place.

The theme for the 2017 celebration, organised by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, is 'Yoga for Health.' The theme highlights the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving equilibrium between mind and body.

Dr Debashis Bakshi, the Secretary IRIIM, said that great enthusiasm was observed among common people as more than 600 people assembled at the campus to practice yoga which was performed in three consecutive sessions in the morning.

Hundreds, spotting branded t-shirts with matching trainers and sneakers thronged the forecourt of the State House in Accra last Saturday, to participate in interesting Yoga exercises; some for the first time.
