European champions Portugal were pegged back twice by North and Central American champions Mexico in a 2-2 draw in the second match of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup on Sunday at the Kazan Arena in Russian Federation.
The Video Assistant Referees (VARs) were in full use as Portugal had a goal disallowed due to the VARs.
The goals were scored by Portugal's Ricardo Quaresma (34th minute) and Cedric Soares (86th minute), and Mexico's Javier Hernandez (42nd minute) and Hector Moreno (90th minute).
The homophobic abuse was heard during Mexico's opening game against Portugal in Kazan on Sunday despite Federation Internationale de Football Association warning on the eve of the World Cup warm-up tournament that there would be tighter monitoring of offensive incidents in stadiums.
The result leaves both sides tied for second place in Group A, behind hosts Russian Federation who top the group after beating New Zealand 2-0 on Saturday in St. Petersburg.
Portugal play the hosts in Moscow on Wednesday before completing their group fixtures against New Zealand in Saint Petersburg on June 24.
