Another Shocking Twist To Kumble-Kohli Fiasco

Last Night Anil Kumble gave his resignation to the BCCI and stepped down from the position of the Indian Team's coach citing differences from captain Virat Kohli.

He had taken on the role 12 months ago, guiding India to 12 victories from 17 Test matches with just one defeat. Immediately after Kumble's resignation, social media got flooded with requests asking Dhoni to return as the captain of the Indian team. The present bunch of youngsters including Kohli for whom money is above national pride was not comfortable with their head coach and Kumble was not one who could take this nonsense for long. Doesn't it have the power to stamp its authority on the captain and tell him to carry on with the coach that it has appointed?

Kumble's original contract expired with the team's Champions Trophy campaign, but the former captain was tipped to get an extension after enjoying a successful run during his year in charge.

Though the team may return victorious from the West Indies and the bitter memory of the Champions Trophy final loss will be forgotten, Kohli may not feel the same about the Kumble episode.

Interestingly, on the other hand, Kumble reportedly apprised CAC members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman that he didn't have any problems with Kohli.

"I have very little knowledge about the differences between Virat and Anil, but it is a really sad day for Indian cricket", Gavaskar told NDTV.

He also said that despite attempts to resolve misunderstandings, the partnership had become "untenable".

Professionalism, discipline, commitment, honesty, complementary skills and diverse views are the key traits that I bring to the table. "It's really a case where the BCCI has backed the captain over the coach", he said. And finally, isn't Indian cricket the biggest loser in all of this?

"These need to be valued for the partnership to be effective".

Presently coaching the India U-19 team, Dravid who was always a great team man can have a great piece of advice for youngsters looking to enter the senior team as to how they could master overseas pitches and conditions like those in the West Indies.

Kumble is also the chairman of the International Cricket Council's cricket committee and has stayed back in London for the world governing body's meeting this week. But he has made a decision to not go on with the West Indies tour.

Under Kumble's leadership, India won an away Test series in West Indies (2-0) followed by successive wins against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1- 0), and Australia (2-1) at home.
