The warning covers coastal areas from San Luis Pass in Texas to the mouth of the Pearl River in Louisiana.
The greatest threat from Tropical Storm Cindy will be heavy rain.
Communities and oil refining and production facilities from Texas to Florida braced on Tuesday for potential disruptions as Tropical Storm Cindy strengthened over the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, threatening to bring flash floods across parts of the northern Gulf Coast.
Cindy is expected to continue its move towards the northwest throughout the day Wednesday and then shift to the north-northwest and then the north Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Forecasters say the Alabama and MS coasts could be inundated with as much as 15 inches (38 centimeters) of rain from a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico. This means these locations will experience tropical storm conditions within the next 24 hours. Even though the track has shifted west, impacts from the rain, tides, and tornadoes will occur east of the landfall. Despite the center of circulation coming onshore so far west of our area, most of the rain is happening on the east side of the center. Forecasters warned 6 to 9 inches (15-22 cms) of rain and up to 12 inches (30 cms) in spots was the biggest threat in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle.
