Anti-Sharia Rally Prompts Lively Protest In San Bernardino

Tensions boiled over at an Anti-Sharia Law protest in East Orlando on Saturday morning, when protesters and counter-protesters clashed on several occasions forcing Orange County Sheriff's Deputies to get involved in order to keep the peace. Marches against Islamic law were planned Saturday in more than two dozen cities across the United States, but scholars and others say the protesters are stoking unfounded fears and promoting a distorted and prejudiced view of the religion.

Minnesota State Patrol officers arrested seven people outside on the Capitol lawn as attendees yelled at each other. About twice as many counter-protesters marshaled across the street.

Dueling demonstrations in Chicago and many other cities were held Saturday between those who raised the specter that extremist interpretations of Islamic law might somehow spread across the USA and others who called such fears unfounded. A counter-protest is scheduled for the same time. The tensest moment came later in the afternoon when Anti-Sharia law protesters broke the windows of Anti-Trump counter protesters as they attempted to leave.

A trooper tried to detain this man, when trooper looked away people swarmed them & tried grabbing the man when confrontation escalated.

The nationwide rallies, dubbed the "March Against Sharia", coincide with the Muslim holiday Ramadan and are sponsored by ACT for America, an organization with chapters around the country that calls itself "the NRA of national security".

As Muslims make up less than 1 percent of the United States population, the idea that Sharia law could become commonplace may seem unusual.

Through downtown Seattle, hundreds marched banging drums, cymbals, and cowbells with signs saying "Seattle stands with our Muslim neighbors".

The actions in Seattle took on extra significance because the Portland June 10 ACT demonstration was shifted to Seattle in the aftermath of the killing of 2 men who stepped up in defense of a Muslim teen and her friend on the Max train in Portland. Throughout her long career as a professional fear-monger, Gabriel has tried to portray everyday Muslims as potential terrorists who want to overthrow the US government and replace it with Sharia law. But the Southern Poverty Law Center has noted that ACT for America rallies tend to attract a broad range of far-right extremists and anti-government activists.

"We're making so much noise to drown out the fact that they are furthering hate speech", Eric Josephson, 66, told the publication.

Rally participants and a handful of counter-protesters appeared Saturday in Atlanta's Piedmont Park.

"No hate, no fear, Muslims are welcome here", they chanted, accompanied by horns, pots and pans. While she was leading the rally outside the federal building here in Syracuse, Lisa Joseph described President Trump as the country's savior.

"We don't want it imposed in this country", said Merav Levi, an Israeli immigrant.
