Around a hundred people entered the town hall, and were held back by police and council officials.

Grenfell Tower, a 24-storey apartment block in North Kensington, West London, was set up in 1974. This includes the 30 fatalities confirmed so far.

"What I'm now absolutely focused on is ensuring that we get that support on the ground", May said in a BBC Newsnight interview, according to Reuters. Firefighters took more than 24 hours to bring the blaze under control.

He added: "We would like the chief executive of the council to make public commitments on what the council is going to do for the victims of this borough, and for all the other buildings in the borough that could stand the same fate at Grenfell Towers".

Local residents also say they are angry that their safety concerns had been ignored and that people had been told to stay in their flats in the event of a fire.

"The police is saying get out, the whole building is burning and we're on the top floor, get out how?" says Rania on video.

British Prime Minister Theresa May, facing criticism for the government's handling of the Grenfell Tower fire disaster, has met with 15 survivors and community leaders at her official residence at 10 Downing Street in London.

"The residents of Grenfell Tower, families who have lost loved ones, and the emergency services who have been working so hard to help them have been through some of the most harrowing and traumatic experiences imaginable", Mrs May said.

Britain's Hammond to push for United Kingdom to stay in EU customs union
Britain also enjoys many opt-outs from European Union rules, including from ever joining the euro zone. "The withdrawal and future are intimately linked".

Earlier in the day, Scotland Yard expressed fears that all the victims of the massive fire may never be identified. This relies on dental records, fingerprints and DNA when possible and also features like tattoos or scars.

Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip have observed a minute of silence to honor the victims of the London high-rise fire.

"Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity", the queen wrote in her message.

Protesters gathered around Kensington and Chelsea Town Hall on Friday as anger boiled over in London after claims that earlier renovation work may have been responsible for the dramatic spread of the blaze.

These buildings are believed to not have sprinklers or fire escapes and could spark another disaster like Grenfell Tower.

Communities and Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid said inspections of similar buildings had been ordered, with particular attention to the modern cladding used to beautify and add insulation to ageing concrete and steel structures.

The tragedy has provoked a huge response from nearby communities.

Friends and families of victims, including a furious seven-year-old, asked: "How many children died?" Numerous displaced are living in churches and community centers.
