Rodman arrived in North Korea the day of Warmbier's release, raising speculation that he may be attempting to secure Otto's release.
His father criticized the Obama administration on Thursday for the handling of his son's imprisonment. "We made a few media appearances and travelled to Washington to meet with Ambassador Joe Yun at the State Department", Warmbier said.
"I don't know what being in shock is, but I'm pretty sure I was", he said.
Warmbier is receiving treatment at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, but details of his condition have not been released.
Though the medical staff caring for Warmbier "have no verifiable information about what happened to Otto", they say Warmbier's type of injury usually comes from cardio-pulmonary arrest, or a stoppage of the heart and lungs "resulting in the death of brain tissue".
"He shows no signs of understanding language or responding to verbal commands", said Dr. Daniel Kanter, professor of neurology and director of the Neurocritical Care Program.
The North Korean government said Warmbier went into a coma after he suffered an attack of botulism - a type of food poisoning - and was given sleeping pills. His recollections form a part of the story that speaks to Warmbier's innocence and further undermines the North Korean government's version of events.
He said he doesn't believe "anything they (the North Koreans) say". After a Pyongyang diplomat told ABC News last summer that USA citizens detained in North Korea would be subjected to wartime laws, Richardson suggested that the Geneva Conventions might be at stake.

I won't say that party doesn't matter, because party is how we define our beliefs and work towards shared goal. The Washington Nationals released additional seating in Nats Park to accommodate the demand.
"Last evening, we received a very nice phone call from Pres. Trump, who told us that Sec. of State Tillerson worked hard to bring Otto home".
New details that emerged Thursday about Yun's brief visit to the North Korean capital illustrate the deep level of estrangement between the USA and North Korea, two countries that don't have diplomatic relations and have technically been in a state of war for more than half a century, despite the armistice that ended the Korean War. On June 6 in New York, Yun met with North Korean diplomats and was informed about Otto's condition for the first time.
"We have been evaluating whether we should put some type of travel visa restriction to North Korea", Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
After restating the question for other reporters who could not hear it, Warmbier gave a quick answer.
"Otto is a fighter", he said.
His father, Fred Warmbier, said Thursday he does not believe North Korea's explanation that the coma resulted from botulism and a sleeping pill. He had allegedly attempted to steal a political poster while on a trip to the country from China.
"North Korea is a pariah regime, they are brutal and they are terroristic", Warmbier added later in the press conference. And, so, the fact that he was taken and treated this way is awful and it's tough to process.
Doctors found no evidence of trauma after examining all of the bones in Warmbier's body.
