Sessions denies colluding with Russian Federation

Jeff Sessions gave evidence to a Senate investigation into whether the Russian government tried to influence the vote.

Days after that, Mr Sessions also corrected his confirmation hearing testimony to inform the committee about the two meetings with Mr Kislyak.

But he denied meeting Kislyak a third time, at an April 27, 2016 reception for Trump at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington.

He called accusations of collusion "an appalling and detestable lie" and derided the suggestion last week by Comey that there were "problematic" issues that forced Sessions to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe.

Jeff Sessions raised more questions than he answered in front of the Intelligence Committee, which is why Senator Franken and his colleagues on the Judiciary Committee deserve the opportunity to question the man who lied to them.

This was among the many times Sessions attempted to explain that he is protecting the President's right to choose to invoke executive privilege in not sharing the details of conversations.

Simply put, it's power of the President of the United States, and other members of the executive branch, to be able to refuse requests for information if disclosing such information would disrupt the functions of the executive branch.

"I do want you to be honest", Harris said.

He said Comey never talked with him about the investigation.

That led to a series of frustrated and sometimes tense exchanges with critics of President Donald Trump on the panel, NBC News reported.

Sessions repeatedly refused to discuss private conversations with Trump on a wide variety of topics.

Gatland: I hope we didn't disappoint our critics
At the moment they're happy to take their points, but Ireland's win in Chicago was based on an adventurous approach to penalties . It will be their first appearance at the covered stadium, where teams from the Lions catchment have a decent history.

"I am not stonewalling, I am following the historic policies of the Department of Justice", Sessions said.

Harris also asked Sessions to provide the committee with documents, notes, and written correspondence relevant to his testimony, to which Sessions responded he would so where "appropriate".

Sessions criticized Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, which the White House had initially cited as the ostensible reason for his firing.

Sessions also testified that he had never had any meetings with officials from Russian Federation or anywhere else about interference in the USA election. Sessions said he did not mislead Congress because the encounters were part of his job as a US senator, not as a Trump campaign representative.

Sessions said it would be "absurd" to suggest that a recusal from a single investigation would render him unable to manage the leadership of the FBI.

SESSIONS: Well, you let me qualify it.

Sessions had previously recused himself from the FBI's probe into alleged collusion between Donald Trump and Russian Federation.

Comey told the committee in his public testimony last week that he "implored" Sessions to make sure he was never left alone again with the president - but that Sessions did not respond.

Sessions was asked about all of this under oath Tuesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee, the lead congressional committee on Russian Federation.

"I can not answer that because it was a communication by the president, or if any such occurred it would be a communication that he has not waived", Sessions said.
