The US Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are involved along with several other agencies.
Dubose had been in prison since July 2015 for crimes including armed robbery and was not due for release until 2034, according to the corrections department.
The pair are believed to be traveling in a dark green Honda Civic.
Later Tuesday, the manhunt shifted about 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the north to the city of Madison, where two men fitting their description were seen entering a Family Dollar store less than a mile (1.6 kilometer) from a house that was burglarized. Authorities say the men then stole a vehicle.
According to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, best known for taking down freaky cult leader Malachi York, the two men gained entry to the driver's compartment, where they overpowered and disarmed Officers Curtis Billue and Christopher Monica. Monica, 42, began working for the Department of Corrections in 2009 and was promoted to sergeant in 2012. He was emotional as he described encountering the slain officers, recalling that their blood was still on his shoes.

At least one of the men, both of whom have long, violent criminal histories, shot both officers.
