At least six people have died and 74 were injured in a massive blaze which destroyed a residential tower block in London on Wednesday morning.
Police received report of the fire at the building at 1:16 a.m. local time (0016 GMT).
A website run by the "Grenfell Action Group" said residents of the tower had expressed concerns over the safety of the building, specifically pointing to fire risks.
Virginia Sang, 62, said she knows numerous Grenfell Tower residents through her work at a local health centre and had walked past its only entrance hours before the fire started.
The fire brigade said 40 fire engines and 200 firefighters had been called to the blaze at Grenfell Tower, which has 120 flats.
She said: "People were starting to appear at the windows, frantically banging and screaming".
"When you live around here, you know people".
Residents said repairs, including the addition of some sort of cladding, had been made to the exterior of the block recently.
London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said the fire is "unprecedented".
Cotton said the cause was unknown as yet.
Earlier, London Ambulance Service Assistant Director of Operations Stuart Crichton confirmed in a statement that over 50 patients were admitted to five hospitals across London following the incident at the Grenfell Tower.
