Knowing full well former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey would be a favorite topic of the day's political interviews, Trump preemptively criticized him as "cowardly".

"I think Congress should now intervene and they should abolish the independent counsel, because Comey makes so clear that it's the poison fruit of a deliberate manipulation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation director leaking to the New York Times, deliberately set up this particular situation". Trump says on Twitter, "Totally illegal?"

Trump took to Twitter early Friday to declare victory, denouncing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director he fired as a liar and a "leaker" based on Comey's damaging testimony about their interactions.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions has agreed to appear for sharp questioning by senators on the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday - whether that hearing will be public or closed is not yet known.

United States broadcast networks interrupted regular programming to air live coverage of Mr Comey's more than two hours of remarks before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Comey said Thursday that he began documenting his conversations with the president because he had a "gut feeling" Trump might lie about the nature of those meetings. When asked if the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director was lying then, the president said, "Well, I didn't say that".

On Friday, Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski criticized Comey as not "man enough" for having leaked the memo via his friend rather than doing it himself.

As for those tapes Trump claims he has, Congressional investigators said they want them if they, in fact, exist.

Trump's pledge to offer sworn testimony to Mueller came in a press conference the day after Comey's dramatic testimony before the Senate intelligence committee.

Comey "leaking his own memos to manipulate the system is exactly why people dislike the swamp", said Trump ally Newt Gingrich.

Collins went one step further, said she would support issuing a subpeona, though she hoped the president would release the tapes "voluntarily".

Comey said that because his writings were unclassified, he felt he could share them with the media. Susan Collins (R-Maine) if he had shared with anybody the memos he had written to document his conversations with Trump about the president's alleged request for Comey to stop investigating Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation. "There's no ambiguity in it", Trump Jr. said on Fox News" "Justice with Judge Jeanine".

To the committee on Thursday, Comey implied that Sessions may have more links to Russian Federation than have already been established.

Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island is an ex officio member of the Senate Intelligence committee.

Two sources familiar with what Comey said in the closed door gatherings told NBC News about the confirmation.
