There were questions at times in the series where James ranked relative to Kevin Durant, who was named the unanimous Finals MVP after finishing off the Cavs with a 39-point, seven-rebound, five-assist performance in the clincher.

There has never been a more talented team than these Warriors, who went 16-1 in the playoffs and blew out the Cavaliers twice before being seriously challenged in the Finals.

Knowing Durant had to be careful, LeBron James drove to the rim and threw down a vicious dunk over the Warriors star that gave the Cavaliers a 41-33 lead with less than two minutes gone in the second quarter. And as had been the case in the first three games, it was Durant (21 first half points) and Curry (20 first half points, five assists, four rebounds) leading the way.

Golden State Warriors won the Western Conference while Cleveland Cavaliers had another stellar season winning the Eastern Conference.

"I'm proud of you, son", she told the 2017 NBA Finals MVP.

For a while it looked like that run might just continue and the Warriors would put this one away early until J.R. Smith, the streakiest of streaky shooters got it going. Technicals-Cleveland defensive three second, Cleveland team, T.Thompson, Smith, Golden State defensive three second, West, Golden State team. With all of the Warriors' big guns healthy, the Cavaliers understand where they stand.

Though they failed to achieve that ideal mark, finishing these playoffs 16-1 because of a brief hiccup against the Cavaliers in Game 4, this is a pick-your-poison team. Durant appeared to commit his third foul on the play, but the officials let it go and the game quickly turned. Asked before the game if his team would approach the game as if it had "nothing to lose", Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue responded, "We do have something to lose: a championship".

James put down a powerful slam on Durant during the second quarter of NBA Finals Game 5. The Cavaliers made 15 of 24 shots in the first quarter to seize a 37-33 lead, James and Irving each scoring 12 points in the period, as did Curry for Golden State.

That Magic series was the last time James' teams did not win at least one road game in a series.

For the third year in a row, the Warriors and the Cavaliers met in the Finals. James' desperation was contagious, and his ability to get to nearly every loose ball (six third-quarter rebounds) helped keep the Cavs close.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been saying they're a better team when their backs are against the wall.

But it wasn't just LeBron James that shined in Game 4. Past year they became the first team in National Basketball Association history to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship. The Warriors crumbled a year ago after taking a 3-1 lead, walked out of Oracle Arena bruised, wounded and devastated after a Game 7 defeat, agonizingly unaware that something much more than a silver lining awaited.

The Warriors dominated their two previous home games in the series, winning 113-91 and 132-113.

They entered the postseason favored to capture their second championship in three seasons and, to some extent, atone for last season.
