Saudi, Bahrain Welcome Trump's Scolding of Qatar

Trump accused Qatar of being a high level funder of terrorism.

"So we had a decision to make, do we take the easy road or do we finally take a hard but necessary action?"

"We, as Turkey, will pursue our constructive efforts to resolve this crisis because we see the stability and security in Gulf region as our own".

"The state of Qatar, in accordance to its firm beliefs and principles, works on avoiding political conflicts with states and governments when dealing with their people", the ministry said. The incident triggered a diplomatic row between Qatar and its neighbors. Turkey's parliament has approved deploying troops to a base in Qatar and Iran has offered to send food.

He said the diplomatic rift has not interrupted or curtailed operations at al Udeid air base, a launching pad for USA military efforts in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Tillerson also said the blockade by Qatar's neighbors was "hindering USA military action in the region, and the campaign against ISIS", using an acronym for the Islamic State group.

"We call on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt to ease the blockade against Qatar", he said in Washington. The State Department had said the US learned only at the last minute about the Arab nations' plan to cut ties. Qatar denies such charges and says the Saudis are seeking to dominate smaller nations in the neighborhood.

The Turkish leader has urged Saudi Arabia, as "the largest and most powerful state in the Gulf", to reduce tensions and lift sanctions.

Some African countries have cautiously come out in support of attempts to isolate Qatar.

"Qatar has been riding (the) tiger of extremism & terrorism".

A statement said the list shows that Qatar "announces fighting terrorism on one hand and finances and supports and hosts different terrorist organizations on the other hand". Though the president said others, too, were guilty of supporting terrorism, he said he would not name them.

"This agreement does not target any country in the Gulf region", he added.

Qatar's new and state-of-the-art Hamad International Airport in Doha serves as a major transit hub for some 37 million passengers a year, largely between Europe and Asia. Most of its population consists of foreign workers, mainly from South Asia, who helped build the tiny state off the Arabian Peninsula into a natural gas exporting powerhouse, crowned with skyscrapers.
