Donald Trump pulling US out of Paris accord: India has disproved US President Donald Trump's weird claim that New Delhi had signed the Paris climate agreement to pocket billions and billions and billions of dollars in foreign aid.

"We signed it because of our belief", -a 5,000-year-old belief in environment and our commitment to protecting it.If someone says we signed it for money or under pressure, I'll reject it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said last Friday India is committed to protecting the climate, irrespective of the Paris agreement, but avoided a direct reference to the United States withdrawing from the global deal.

Trump had claimed that India signed the Paris climate agreement to get "billions and billions and billions of dollars in foreign aid", which earned him criticisms from India. "India will continue to be part of it irrespective of whether the USA remains in it or not", Swaraj told reporters while speaking on three years of the Modi government. Think of it. India can double their coal production. Trump, while talking about U.S. decision to pull out of the agreement, had accused India of seeking "billions and billions and billions" of dollars through the Paris deal.

The vast majority of India's power still comes from heavily-polluting coal power plants, just under two thirds of its total capacity, but India is aiming for a target of 40% renewable energy by 2030 - including a commitment to generate 100 GW of solar-based power by 2020.

Signatories to the new initiative include 13 Democratic and Republican governors, 19 state attorneys general, over 200 mayors, and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and small businesses.

The coalition will align a number of different efforts to show USA support for the Paris agreement, including a commitment of over 260 corporations including Kellogg, Pepsi Co. and Walmart to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in line with the latest science.

Pelosi said climate change is "the challenge to this generation" and her "flagship issue".

The Paris accord is broader than any previous climate agreement.
