Apple TV update adds the one feature you've been waiting years for

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the deal at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.

Between the iOS 11 announcements and new 10.5-inch iPad Pro unveiling, however, was a smaller announcement sure to generate a big reaction.

Amazon Video is coming to Apple TV this year. For example, there will be Prime video content like viewing movies and TV shows while using Apple TV.

About 5,300 developers from 75 countries were expected to attend this year's conference, which returned to San Jose for the first time in 15 years (it had been in San Francisco's Moscone Center).

Despite confirming the upcoming release, however, the manufacturer has revealed the wait isn't over just yet.

Recode had first reported that Amazon and Apple were nearing an agreement to bring Amazon's app to Apple TV, and BuzzFeed later confirmed the news. The Apple TV app already allows users to find and play shows from services like HBO and Showtime.

Yet Monday's announcement, rather than being routine, was the result of a negotiation stretching back at least to 2015 when Amazon stopped selling Apple TVs on its retail site. This is something Apple TV owners have been asking for ever since the fourth-generation set top box was released.

Amazon and Apple declined to comment on how their differences have affected customers.

Some of the shows that will soon be available to Apple TV users include Mozart in the Jungle and Man in the High Castle, among others.

While Amazon Prime Video has never been included on Apple TV, the dispute has been more than a one-way affair.
