France complicated their task of ensuring automatic qualification to next year's World Cup in Russian Federation after falling to a dramatic 2-1 defeat in Sweden on Saturday.

While Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo continued his electric scoring form, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris dimmed the lights for France with an inexplicably poor error in contrasting fortunes during 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Friday.

There was nothing impressive - or justifiable - about the error from Lloris that led to Sweden's victor against France in Group A.

The freak goal sent the massed ranks of yellow clad fans in Stockholm into a wild frenzy, but more importantly with four games to go it sent Sweden top of Group A, level on 13 points with France.

Less than one week after scoring twice in Real Madrid's 4-1 win against Juventus in the Champions League final, Ronaldo netted another two in Portugal's 3-0 win at Latvia in Group B. He has 73 goals in 139 appearances for his country.

Andorra stunned Hungary 1-0 in their World Cup qualifier on Friday to end a 66-match winless run in competitive internationals stretching back almost 13 years.

Portugal's fifth successive win in Group B left them with 15 points from six games but still three behind leaders Switzerland who beat Faroe Islands 2-0 to maintain their 100 percent record.

Murray hopeful he is back to his best despite semifinal loss
The quarterfinal match between fifth-seeded Elena Svitolina and No. 3 Simona Halep at the French Open is going into a third set. He capped it, appropriately, with a backhand down the line, his 87th victor of the day, 51 more than Murray accumulated.

France had pulled ahead through Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud after 37 minutes, but the Scandinavians levelled before the break thanks to Jimmy Durmaz (43).

Only the winners of each group are guaranteed a place at next year's finals in Russian Federation, with the eight best second-placed sides competing in the play-offs.

There could well be a lot of nerves on show when the French host the Dutch at Stade de France on August 31.

Andorra's previous, and only other, win in a competitive match was a 1-0 victory over Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier in October 2004.

June 9, 2017 at 21:45, as part of the qualification for the upcoming World Cup match in Riga at the stadium "Skonto", in which the Latvian team will play against the national team of Portugal. After losing a little unexpectedly to Switzerland 2: 0, in the next meetings the Portuguese invariably took 3 points.

In group H, Belgium took a big step towards qualifying by beating Estonia 2-0 with goals from Dries Mertens (31) and Nacer Chadli (86). The other had come in a 2-1 home loss to Switzerland.
