The pair were both given 20-year sentences but a judge reduced them to 17 and a half years minimum.

He said they had a "toxic" relationship, and acted in a grotesque way after the stabbings.

Saturday April 9: Markham and Edwards barricade themselves into his room after her mother tells her she will turn out like her absent father - described in court as a drug addict.

Eventually they were identified and arrested 36 hours later while the police had reported their disappearance.

On the fifth day of her trial - which would have been her sister's 14th birthday - Miss Edwards appeared unmoved in the dock as her "grief" was likened by the Crown's lawyer to that usually felt by a child at the death of a pet hamster. After being asked "Where's your attractive smile x", Edwards replies "It disappeared x.' Mrs Edwards then asks 'Why Hun x" and adds 'I think it's under ur bed lol x'. They agree that he should knock three times on a rear window, before climbing into the property through a bathroom window opened by Edwards.

The teenagers were both given life sentences for the murders, which saw the victims stabbed through the throat and smothered as they slept.

Det Supt Martin Holvey, of Lincolnshire Police, did not seem to think the identities should have been made public: "I'm sure that sense of disbelief and horror will be deepened now it is known that it was Elizabeth's own daughter who was responsible for plotting with her boyfriend to carry out the murders".

Saturday April 16: Edwards makes full admissions to police, giving them a step-by-step account of the murders and their planning.

She said: "Because my mum doesn't have to deal with me anymore erm being like suicidal and she doesn't have to wake up worrying every morning to see if I'm still alive erm and my sister doesn't have to go through the heartbreak and and like and just all the emotions and stuff".

Edwards, now 15, was found guilty of murder last October after a five-day trial, while Markham, also now 15, pleaded guilty to Elizabeth's and Katie's murders. Mr Joyce tells jurors the only issue in the case is whether Edwards has a defence of diminished responsibility.

The ban on naming the pair was lifted by Sir Brian Leveson, Mr Justice Blake and Mr Justice Lewis.

Although the original plan was for the teenage boy to kill Elizabeth Edwards while Miss Edwards would stab Katie, Mr Markham offered to kill both victims after his girlfriend said she did not want to kill her sister.
