Saudi Arabia's central bank has ordered lenders in the country not to increase their exposure to any Qatari clients amid the worst crisis in relations among the Gulf Arab monarchies in decades, according to people familiar with the matter.

Qatar has transformed itself as a global education hub in recent years, hosting overseas outposts of 12 worldwide universities, but faces mounting uncertainty after four Arab states - Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain - cut diplomatic ties.
A coalition led by Saudi Arabia is tightening the noose on neighboring Qatar, accusing the emirate of financing extremist groups and of meddling in the internal affairs of its neighbors, charges that Qatar deny. Al Thani, the ambassador, insisted his country had no idea why Qatar's neighbors were picking a fight.
Confidence Qatar's state finances is tumbling in the wake of a diplomatic row that has seen neighbouring states such as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain cut ties.
The decision to cut ties with Qatar took shape in a rolling series of meetings over several weeks, said a Gulf Arab source.

European foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Twitter on Thursday that she had spoken with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar and called for "direct dialogue to quickly resolve ongoing crisis".
Other countries also are offering to intervene, and it's not clear if Trump will end up as the primary mediator. Leading the efforts to defuse the crisis is Kuwaiti ruler Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, who's been shuttling among Gulf capitals for talks.
A White House summit seemed an unlikely possibility.
The Qatari Interior Ministry said late Wednesday that the website of the Qatar News Agency was initially hacked in April with "high techniques and innovative methods".
