In a surprise development, a delegation of top farmers' leaders met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray here on Tuesday and asked them to "lead them".
The latest development came four days after Thackeray on May 2 publicly declared support for the farmers' strike and hours after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the "biggest" farm loan waiver package in the state's history was coming for need and deserving farmers by October 31.
But the agitation has also become for some an opportunity to sabotage farmer protests, as alleged Congress workers went on a rampage in Ujjain, vandalising shops and trying to be a part of the agitation.
At least seven farmers were also wounded in the police firing.
Five farmers were killed and two critically injured in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh when the police opened fire during a violent protest on Tuesday. He dubbed the MP government as anti-farmers. Other farm unions vowed to continue the protest. "All necessary steps have been initiated to address farmers' concerns", Chouhan said at a hurriedly-convened press conference in Bhopal on Monday.

Farmers are on strike from June 1 to June 10, to demand loan waiver and fair price for their produce.
Singh added: "The Chief Minister is himself responsible for the violent protests by farmers".
Protesters pelted stones and damaged several two-wheelers as the police used lathi-charge to disperse them.
On Wednesday, there were sporadic incidents of violence at some places as farmers set vehicles on fire. Earlier, they got into a scuffle with the collector and superintendent of police of Mandsaur district over them delaying their visit to the area, ANI said. Angry farmers had reportedly emptied 12,000 litres of milk on road from tankers in Bandnawar district and followed it with looting trucks.
A state police spokesman reached by Reuters said: "The situation is very tense".
