The Tigers announced their slugger's absence about a half-hour before the scheduled first pitch against the Orioles.

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-2) allowed five runs in five innings.

The Tigers center fielder, who doubled his home run output for the season with the first multi-homer game of his career, added a double. "You don't enjoy one like that unless you win it". Francisco Rodriguez was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs in the 13th. He got called up after just one game in Bowie.

"I just looked at it again".

With two on and two out in the bottom of the fifth, Collins put the Tigers back on top with his second long ball, this one landing in the right-field stands. Collins is mired in an 0-for-30 slump, and Detroit didn't have any position players left to pinch hit. The Tigers almost let Wednesday's game slip away as well. "That's a great win".

And then when the Orioles strung three hits together, two of them broken-bat singles, and scored first against Michael Fulmer, well, it wasn't looking promising. Detroit is 7-1 in its last 8 Tuesday games. The Orioles sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.

Detroit starter Matthew Boyd allowed seven runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings. He surrendered eight hits and three walks while striking out five.

Oil up on falling United States inventories
Seven million barrels is roughly two days of oil imports into Japan, the world's fourth-biggest importer. Oil was also buoyed by media reports on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia would cut crude supplies to Asia.

J.D. Martinez drew four of Detroit's nine walks. But Mychal Givens couldn't get an out, walking the bases loaded. The teams had a game postponed May 4.

Montero (0-3) relieved to start the 11th, and Hermann worked the count full, fouled off a pitch and connected on a belt-high fastball for his first game-ending homer.

"We think it will be two or three days", Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "He threw a harder slider today".

BRAVES 8, BLUE JAYS 4: Kurt Suzuki hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run first inning, and host Atlanta held on after Freddie Freeman left with an injury.

Castillo made his 18th start of the season for the Orioles on Tuesday, but he hadn't played since April 30 because of right shoulder tendinitis. Showalter said Dylan Bundy would have been able to start Wednesday on regular rest if Jimenez had been needed Tuesday.

The Orioles hitters were not interested in letting Fulmer continue his streak of quality starts as they hung four runs on him through the first five innings.
