North Lake College officials said the school was placed under lockdown.
McLellan said it didn't appear that anyone else was hurt in the shooting that erupted around noon local time.
An hour after the lockdown, bodies of two people were found on campus-a man and a woman.
"I saw a lot of students just running outside so I was like, 'What the heck?"
"He had been stalking her for quite awhile but she didn't make anything of it", said Lucia Gonzalez, Janeera's mother. "I immediately ran back to the room I'm working in, locked the doors and asked all the students to go back to the back room and to turn off the lights and be quiet". She said she also emailed her supervisors to let them know what was happening.
"We've been trained on how to handle emergencies, so I tried to remember those steps", Nanbakhsh said. "I saw the gun, and he shot her three times, and it was too close", Nanbakhsh said. One witness told police Torres walked up to Gonzalez, yelled "You know who I am and you know why I'm here", and then shot her three times. He said officers then entered the room and had students leave with their hands over their heads.
Too much caffeine led to heart problems that killed teen
The teen collapsed and died last month of what the Richland County Coroner just confirmed was a "caffeine-induced cardiac event". Sean Cripe said he hoped his son's death would save other lives by exposing the potential dangers of excessive caffeine .
Irving police spokesman James McLellan says the gunman took his own life after killing the woman. Police said he was armed with a handgun and carried a black jacket. Irving police confirmed via Twitter that the suspect had committed suicide.
While the campus was on lockdown, police and SWAT officers looked through buildings until they found Adrian Victor Torres, 21, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a locker room shower in Building F.
The family told the WFAA that the two never dated and were not friends.
North Lake College will remain closed until Monday.
North Lake College is a two-year public school that's part of the Dallas County Community College District.
