More severe storms expected this afternoon into tonight; tornadoes possible

At least one tornado touched down Tuesday in the Texas Panhandle as the threat for severe storms stretches from the nation's midsection to near the Great Lakes region.

The severe thunderstorms will then spread eastward through the evening and overnight hours into eastern Kansas, central Oklahoma and south-central Texas.

At least one person has been killed by a tornado that roared through a portion of a western Oklahoma town.

Emergency management officials in Grant County reported a gust that hit 68 miles per hour in Cuba City, and wind felled tree branches in the Hazel Green area and debris was blowing across the highway in Ellenboro. We're still tracking a much cooler weekend - don't expect highs much warmer than 70° on Saturday and Sunday.

Some of the hailstones from the most violent storms could reach the size of baseballs.

Some analysts said that USA production could still threaten to disrupt the market balance unless the cuts were deepened. He said the longer extension was needed to balance supply and demand on the global oil market.

Storms will continue to move to the east, into central Kansas Tuesday evening, before exiting the state to the east.

As Tuesday night progresses, the risk of tornadoes will diminish over the Plains. The concern is that all modes of severe weather including a couple of tornadoes is expected.

However, a few locally heavy, gusty thunderstorms can still cause sporadic power outages, ponding of water on roadways and modest airline delays in cities such as Omaha, Des Moines and Minneapolis.

A line of severe thunderstorms struck the central United States on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction from Texas to Wisconsin.
