The White House insists the Times account is not "a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the President and Mr. Comey".

The Flynn investigation was part of a broader probe into Russian interference in last year's presidential election.

But the reports - both rebutted by Trump's team - add to a mounting perception of an administration in a perpetual state of chaos. "And I hope that we can get Comey to come up here and testify".
