The first session of the state legislature of the Yogi Adityanath government began on a stormy note with several firsts.
Lucknow, May 15 Opposition MLAs flung paper balls at Governor Ram Naik and marshals frantically deflected the projectiles with files as the opening day of the maiden session of the new Uttar Pradesh assembly presented a spectacle of complete mayhem.
Uttar Pradesh: Flying paper balls from legislators parried with pieces of cardboard by house marshalls, poster waving and slogan-shouting: The first day of 16th legislative assembly in Uttar Pradesh witnessed an uproar the house has not seen in almost two decades.
Samajwadi legislator Rajesh Yadav blew a whistle through the 35-minute address to ensure that the governor's voice was drowned out. A visibly upset governor Naik said the behaviour of the Opposition was being witnessed by the whole state.
He added that the fact that lawmakers from the opposition benches were continuously whistling as Governor Ram Naik was addressing the joint session of the House spoke volumes of the disregard they have for parliamentary norms and decorum. None of the ministers protested at the noisy scenes either.

These are just a few of the law-and-order issues the united Opposition parties will look to raise in the Assembly to corner the BJP government.
However, what the viewers saw was exactly opposite of what the UP chief minister had said.
After prodding by some SP members, Shivpal moved ahead and took a seat behind Akhilesh, but even after seeing him the former chief minister did not greet him or exchange pleasantries. One Nation, One Tax is in the interest of the country and also of the state. "Now the responsibility is on the Vidhan Sabha to pass the GST Bill", Yogi had said on Monday. The rim of the clock is now saffron.
This was done on the insistence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to bring greater transparency in the governance. "We hope the ruling party likes it".
Singh also said that the incident indicates that why no law and order was maintained during the Samajwadi Party regime, as the party was never interested in the welfare of the people. The women MLAs in the BJP came in orange and yellow saris while the men wore kurtas in various hues of saffron and yellow.
