Feyenoord claimed their first Dutch Eredivisie title in 18 years after a hat trick from 36-year-old Dirk Kuyt on the final day of the season. He doubled the lead in the 12th, then put the result beyond doubt with a penalty kick shortly before the end. The party truly began across the port city when Kuyt grabbed his third in the 84th minute.

Heading into the final game of the Eredivise season Feyenoord sat one point above Ajax at the top of the table, knowing that any slip up could see their arch-rivals overtake them and lift the title.

It was his 100th goal for the club and was followed within 11 minutes by a towering header as he connected with Eljero Elia's cross to spark early celebrations in a packed Feyenoord Stadium.

The Stadionclub beat Heracles 3-1 on the final day of the season to win the tightest of title challenges, finishing a single point ahead of Europa League finalists Ajax.

Jose takes swipe at Wenger
On Sunday this came to fruition on Sunday as Manchester United played a very weakened and defensive team at Arsenal . It's not normal and I really don't care about it. "Arsene Wenger is not a small manager, he's a big manager".

The Rotterdam club squandered the chance to get the job done last weekend when suffering a shock 3-0 loss at Excelsior, leaving the door open for Ajax to pounce in the concluding round of matches.

Feyenoord has always been a member of the elite top three of Dutch football, along with Ajax and PSV, but the Rotterdam club has struggled in recent years.

Feyenoord will represent the Netherlands in the next Champions League, while Ajax will start in the qualifying tournament. The club also is a two-time victor of the UEFA Cup, in 1974 and 2002.

"I am so happy for him", Van Bronckhorst said.
