Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe waits for the beginning of a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee with the other heads of the USA intelligence agencies in the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill May 11, 2017 in Washington, DC.

All four will be interviewed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the two top officials in the Justice Department. President Donald Trump, who would be making that appointment, spent Friday morning declaring political war on Comey via Twitter.

The development comes amid a nationwide debate over free speech on college campuses, in the wake of two high-profile incidents at Berkeley where planned speeches by conservatives ended up getting canceled amid fears of violent student protests.

Trump acknowledged in an interview with NBC News published Thursday he was thinking of the Russian Federation controversy when he chose to fire Comey.

"I have the distinct privilege of serving 28 million Texans in the United States Senate, and that is where my focus remains", Cornyn, who is majority whip in the Senate, said in the statement.

A spokeswoman for Cornyn said the senator "respects" the school's decision.

Rockets 75-114 Spurs: Aldridge inspires side to finals
For both Harden and D'Antoni, this loss means the Rockets will move forward with questions about the future of the franchise. Aldridge did not get his momentum going towards the basket often enough as he shot just 7-for-21 (33%) for the game.

If Cornyn were selected, there likely would be Democratic concern about handing over the nation's premier law enforcement agency to a Republican who - despite being considered an affable senator - has served as a prominent partisan attack dog. "All it does is heighten the attention given to the issue".

Spokespeople for Cornyn did not immediately respond to emails Friday night. The people familiar with the process say others may also interview.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The No. 2 Senate Republican, John Cornyn of Texas, has been pulled from the commencement program at Texas Southern University after students at the historically black university protested his planned appearance.

"Sen. Cornyn was honored to be invited to address TSU's graduates, but he respects the administration's decision and looks forward to continuing to engage with the university in the future".

The university released a press release stating, "Every consideration is made to ensure that our students' graduation day is a celebratory occasion and one they will remember positively for years to come". On the Republican side, obvious potential candidates for appointment or election would be Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Land Commissioner George P. Bush and U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee who toyed with running against Sen.

Gowdy's office declined to comment. If nominated and confirmed, she would be the first woman to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
