She confirmed reports that she had told the White House, six days into Trump's administration, that Flynn, a former military intelligence chief, had not been honest with Vice President Mike Pence about his discussions with the Russian ambassador to Washington, leaving him vulnerable to leverage from Moscow.
Flynn was sacked by Trump after less than a month on the job after it was revealed he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Sergey Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the US during the transition period before Trump's inauguration.
Testimonies of two key former officials before a Senate committee that is investigating alleged Russian interference in the US presidential election a year ago brought the issue into sharp focus again even as President Donald Trump termed the ongoing inquiry a "taxpayer-funded charade".
Senate lawmakers also asked Yates and Former National Intelligence Director James Clapper if they had ever reviewed classified documents in which names of Trump's associates were unmasked. Just because someone comes in and gives you a heads-up about something and says, "I want to share some information", doesn't mean that you immediately jump the gun and go take an action.
Collins then asked how Yates was an opponent to Trump if she was the Acting Attorney General whom Trump chose to keep on.
The hearing took place hours after former Obama administration officials revealed that the outgoing president had warned Mr Trump against hiring Mr Flynn during an Oval Office meeting after the 2016 election.
Moon says he will visit Washington first
Moon's Democratic Party said he was briefed on the status of the North Korean military and South Korea's military readiness. Asked about the invitation to North Korea to attend, Anna Richey-Allen, a spokeswoman for the U.S.
The former Obama administration officials requested anonymity in order to disclose the private conversation between the current and former president. "And that created a compromise situation, a situation where the national security adviser essentially could be blackmailed by the Russians".
"General Flynn was given the highest security clearance by the Obama Administration - but the Fake News seldom likes talking about that", Trump wrote on Twitter Monday morning.
"President Donald Trump called Clapper's comments a full dismissal of potential collusion and dismissed the entire issue outright in the series of tweets after the hearing, referring to information from the day's events as "old news", "a total hoax" and "#FakeNews!".
Trump ignored Obama's advice and tapped Flynn for the top White House national security role.
Yates interviewed Flynn, of course. During their conversation, Mr. Obama warned Mr. Trump not to hire Flynn, whom he himself fired in 2014 from his position as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency because of his temperamental issues. Things that people have said privately about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn were said in public under oath. Obama himself told one of his closest advisers that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which by then had been investigating Trump associates' possible ties to Russian Federation for about six months, seemed particularly focused on Flynn.
The Senate Intelligence Committee said it made the formal demand after Flynn rejected its request two weeks ago for information on his contacts with Russian officials and businessmen.
