Buffett says deal partner 3G follows 'standard capitalist formula'

Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and billionaire investor Warren Buffett criticized United Airlines' leadership Monday for how it responded after a man was forcibly removed from a flight.

Buffett defended 3G Capital, its partner on purchases including Kraft Heinz Co KHC.O and an unsuccessful bid to merge it with Unilever NV ULVR.L UNc.AS , and which is known for slashing thousands of jobs to make companies more efficient. Buffett says United Airlines bungled the case of the passenger dragged off a plane in April 2017, and he is criticizing the CEO's handling of the incident. "People live better when there is more output per capita".

Coattail investing, or simply investing alongside market-moving investors, has proven to be a fruitful strategy for Berkshire Hathaway aficionados, with the Buffett-owned company posting S&P500-beating returns nearly annually for decades.

Buffett said at the time that 'Apple strikes me as having quite a sticky product'.

Mr. Buffett noted that many iPhone purchasers are repeat customers who know a new phone will be introduced regularly, or buy them for such occasions as graduations.

"There's nothing more agonizing than to see your neighbor, who you think has an IQ 30 points below you, getting richer than you are by buying stocks, whether it's internet stocks or whatever", Buffett said. I've admired Jeff, and I've admired him for a long, long time.

Separately, on Amazon, he said, "I was too dumb to realise what was going to happen".

The two major tech companies in which Berkshire holds stocks are Apple and IBM.

Mr. Buffett has said Berkshire could have a new chief executive within 24 hours if he died or could not continue, and that nothing had changed just because he praised fewer managers than usual in his February shareholder letter.
