Interested parties can pick up the tender documents from 12 to 24 May on payment of Rs5 lakh. Ten cities - Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Cuttack, Durgapur, Hyderabad, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Ranchi, Siliguri and Thiruvananthapuram - have been shortlisted and a maximum of three clubs will be included in the next iteration of the popular competition.
The organisers will award one to three new franchises the right to participate in the ISL. The plan, for now, is to have a Super Cup - replacing the Federation Cup - between the top four teams in the ISL and I-League with the victor grabbing the AFC Cup slot normally reserved for Cup winners. The I-League winners will continue to participate in the AFC Champions League play-off and if they fail to clear the hurdle, the AFC Cup.AIFF's request for an additional AFC Cup slot has been rejected by the governing body for Asian football. This is significant since recent reports have indicated that I-League clubs Bengaluru FC, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have been sounded out about the possibility of playing in the ISL, with both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan being encouraged to consider shifting base to Siliguri and Durgapur, respectively.
There were proposals that the two Kolkata giants and Bengaluru FC could be added in the expanded ISL. Despite being the champions, Aizawl would have been relegated if ISL was made the main league as they did not have any place in the franchise league. "The I-League, he said, would remain the official league and, therefore, we want I-League clubs to get AFC Champions League and AFC Cup slots", Mohun Bagan General Secretary Anjan Mitra told IANS over phone.
Ducks eager for rematch with Rinne's Predators in West final
Carlyle has warned his players to think of Rinne as a third defenseman on the ice capable of starting a rush with a breakout pass. Rinne is now the playoff leader among goaltenders with an astounding.951 save percentage and 1.35 goals against average (GAA).
As of now, the I-League winners automatically play the AFC Champions League play-off while the runners-up play the AFC Cup in two berths which has been guaranteed for a few seasons. "The bid documents must be submitted on Thursday, 25th May 2017", the ISL said further.
"All bidding parties will need to fulfil the eligibility criteria and other requirements specified in the ITB including but not limited to summary of plans to operate their team in the league, including the business model and plan to develop the sport at the grassroots level".
Now eight teams including Kerala's own team "Kerala Blasters" are playing ISL.
